Its back to school season! Our team got together to remind students of all ages that:

•You can do hard things

•You are NOT your grades!

•You are enough, just as you are.

•ALL your problems have solutions.

This was a fun event for our team, but more importantly, we hope these affirmations help YOU throughout the school year.

How can I use these affirmations?

We hear about affirmations all the time, but how do you actually implement them? And what are they, anyway?

Affirmations are short but powerful statements that help us challenge negative thoughts. They can be especially helpful for struggles of self-worth, perfectionism, and a harsh inner critic.

Instead of focusing on the negative, affirmations highlight the positive - strength, resistance, and your inherent worth.

For example, if you are someone who attaches their worth to their performance, receiving a lower than desired grade may result in you feeling "I'm so stupid, I'll never get into college."

An affirmation such as "I am not my grades" can help to challenge that thought. It helps to decrease stress and anxiety, and also boosts motivation. Over time, you may begin to realize that you are separating your identity from your performance or external approval. You might begin to take steps to achieve the goal you're wanting (for example, reaching out to a tutor or asking for help), without feeling thats what you have to do to be valuable.

For affirmations to be effective, choose one that reasonates, and repeat it often!

What's your favorite affirmation?
