Mother's Day is just days away! Depending on your situation, that might bring joy, terror, depression, confusion, or more likely, a mix of all of the above. Whatever your feelings towards Mother's Day are, it's okay to feel that way. Your own childhood, coupled with experiences in adulthood (and motherhood, if you are a parent) contribute to those feelings. It's even normal for your feelings about Mother's Day to change year-to-year. Wherever you find yourself this Mother's day, here are some affirmations to repeat or reference throughout the day.
General Mother's Day Affirmations...
Today can look however it needs to - and that's okay.
There is no right or wrong way to celebrate (or not celebrate) today.
My worth is not defined by today.
It is okay to feel joy, grief, gratitude, and longing - all at once.
Love shows up in multiple forms.
For those who are Mothers...
The care I give (to myself, my children, or others) is valuable.
I am making a difference, even in small, unnoticeable ways.
My presence matter to my children more than perfection
For those with Complicated Feelings...
I can hold space for both love and hurt.
Healing is not linear - it's okay if today feels triggering.
I am allowed to protect my peace.
I do not have to celebrate what has caused me pain,
For those Struggling with Grief or Longing
It's okay if today fees heavy.
I am not alone in this feeling.
I will always carry connection in my heart.
For those Struggling with Infertility
Today does not define my worth or future.
My longing is real and deserves to be honored.
Grief can exist for something I have not had yet.
My body is not the enemy, even when it feels like it.
It's okay to feel both hope and heartbreak.
